The Opportunity
Following rapid project volume growth, we are seeking a Solar Designer or Engineer to assist in generating solar photovoltaic system designs for commercial solar projects nationwide. The position requires previous experience with solar design software such as Aurora/Helioscope as well as traditional AutoCAD experience.

In this role you will report to the Director of Engineering and support the wider engineering team in delivering high quality designs and plan sets for our nationwide installation crews. This role would be ideal for an engineer/EIT who is early in their career, and who already has a basic foundation of solar knowledge. This role will allow exposure to a number of high profile commercial solar projects, as well as the opportunity to join a dynamic and rapidly expanding organization with a passionate focus on excellence.

General Responsibilities –

  • Commercial PV system design and drafting and reviewing
  • Create and implement design best practices and ensure compliance throughout the design and engineering process
  • Interface with Sales, Engineering and Construction departments
  • Review site assessment reports and photos to ensure correct final design of system
  • Work with engineering team and oversee/review production of final design pack / permit documents in compliance with local code and regulations
  • Prepare initial sales mechanical and/or electrical schematics
  • Estimate system production using on-line estimating tools
  • Evaluate preliminary electrical interconnection method

Required (Basic) Qualifications

  • 2 or 4 year degree in Drafting, Technology or Engineering
  • Proficiency with solar proposal software such as Aurora or Helioscope
  • High proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics and specifications
  • Capability of navigating, interpreting and applying code requirements when necessary
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct prior experience designing and installing solar systems
  • NABCEP Certification and/or completion of other solar training / certification programs

Core Compensation

Starting base salary for this position is $60,000 to $65,000 annually (with additional bonus opportunities available). Additional benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401k with 4% company match, 2.5 weeks of vacation plus 10 paid holidays, sick leave, and others. Compensation over this amount may be considered based on demonstrated previous solar or other design experience.
